It's a Merry time!!

It's a merry and festive time of the year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the crew at Grapeseeker! Unfortunately, not caught up in the shopping hype, but my son is well taken care of as he celebrated his 5th birthday seven days ago. Enjoy the holidays with family and the ones you love and care deeply about!

Colors

Time in one place can sometimes limit your perception of how colorful South Florida is. As a creative person there's beauty in all of South Florida and we have to capture it through the eyes of a camera. I encourage all of my fellow creatives to do just that and show the beauty of South Florida.

What's in my bag?

It's Sunday afternoon and this brings Football to us again. Well this year i will be traveling to Arizona to shoot a Cardinals game with one of my good friends Roy Dabner sometime this year. I often am asked what I shoot with, and what's in my bag. I have decided to share with you what i use. Welcome to the Nikon family and I must admit they have great equipment. Although i have recently switched to the Canon family (EOS 7D) I am primarily using that camera for film only. I'll post another blog about the 7D in the upcoming weeks.
My bag makes me feel like i'm back in the ARMY doing road marches as its LOADED, and I use it all. It's very good to have a variety of lens and accessories to be able to accommodate for any situation that you may encounter. Lens come in all types and i'm a brand loyalist when making my selection. My lens include all NIKON, which are 18-105 f4-5.6, 10-24 f5.6, 24-70 f2.8, 70-300 f5.6, 70-200 f2.8 and a 2X extender. Along with an assortment of filters, UV filters, rechargeable batteries, Nikon MC36 Intervalometer, (3) 8GB DELKIN CF Cards, Nikon d300, Nikon Speed lights (SB800 and SB900), battery charger, lens cleaner and lots more of accessories. The weight...TOO HEAVY!! I get the feeling that i'm working out when i'm on certain shoots. Next week we'll cover our lighting gear and what we use. Hope you enjoy.

St. John, Virgin Island

One of the most beautiful places that you should visit is none other than St. John, Virgin Island. A beautiful restaurant there on the other side of the island is Miss Lucy's. Fabulous view sitting outside by the ocean and enjoying some of the best food on the island. What a beautiful place at night when the lights come on. Visit Miss Lucy's and you will make it your frequent stop while on the island.

APPLE does it again

Well the day has arrived and the iPad is here. I had a chance to use it this morning at the APPLE Store in Wellington Green and I must say this device is phenomenal! I'm not basing this on the fact that I'm an APPLE loyalist, but this is truly another revolutionary product that they have developed. A lot of my collegeuges don't see the point and view it just as a larger iPhone or iPod, and I disagree as I see a world of useage for me and my business. I know realize that I now have a need to update my YouTube channel to make sure that everyone can see my work. Right now my site is FLASH based and you cannot view FLASH on the iPad. This is a great way for me to just whip out my iPad and show my work fullscreen, and HD on my iPad! BRILLIANT by Steve Jobs of APPLE. Ask yourself when was the last time that Microsoft made a revolutionary product? They haven't.
This is not the replacement for a notebook, but it's an awesome device that fits in it's own category. This will be a great device for my son to read while in the truck with me or his mother.
Once again APPLE (http://www.apple.com/ipad/) does it again and this is another GREAT example of what a brilliant company this is. Yes, I'm a little biased because of my need for Mac's, but this is only the truth. Because this device supports HTML5 it will become interesting to see how ADOBE is able to somehow make FLASH conform to HTML5, or will they? Please comment.

Miami Sequarium

Experiencing the Sequarium today is a great time and relaxing with watching the enjoyment on your childs face makes you appreciate having them and reflecting back on when you were a child. Seeing how excited my son is shows what the finer things in life are, which is our children. This is also a reflection of how excited I am about the job that I have and it's pure excitement each and everyday in this creative arena that we call work.

Appreciation

It's always a pleasure and exciting point in your career and life when you meet someone that equally respects your craft and a great mentor as well. For the past three years I have been making the journey to the beautiful city of Chicago for a Motion Graphics conference, and it's one of the best things that I have done. If you aren't big on training and going to conferences within your trade, then you should reconsider.
Since I have been going to Chicago I have had the priviledge or working and training along with sone of the best in the business. Harry Frank, Nick Campbell, Mason Dixon to name a few. My very first year I met a gentleman from Detroit by the name of Elijah Lewis, Jr. Elijah is BIG in the audio game and he's worked with some of the heavyweights. Kelly Price, The Cheetah Girls, and many others. I also met Michael Azzariti of Blackbag Films who happens to be my mentor as well. He has truly shown me and helped me hone my early tabletop shoots. Not only is he a great mentor, but a great friend as well. You can check out his work http://www.blackbagfilms.com. Truly a master at his craft, and he has shown me the appreciation of tabletop production. IT'S NOT EASY! As a result of being mentored by Michael, I now cringe when I see local food commercials. Poorly designed concept of spots, bad lighting, no food and sometimes not enough food in the commercials. Unfortunately, it's an educational process when trying to convince or educate a client/potential client about why they need an effective and beautiful food commercial. It's very challenging when the bar is set so low for excellence, rather than the bar is raised for "how much" is this going to cost type of mentality. Thank you Michael for all that you have done and continue to do, and for all I'm glad that I met you my friend. One day we will work together on that much sought after tabletop job.

Beautiful day

South Florida is such a beautiful place. During this time of the year there are so many things happening in South Florida! From Miami to West Palm Beach there is so much to do. The Winter Music Conference in Miami, the Palm Beach International Boat Show, The Delray Beach Film Festival in Delray Beach. Sometimes it feels like you are living in paradise.

The pursuit of great photography lighting and the choices.

Over the next two weeks I embark on making a purchase for photography lighting. The three contenders are ProFoto, Elinchrom and Alien Bees. This can be so confusing and cumbersome, but decisions must be made. As it stands the two frontrunners are ProFoto and Elinchrom. If only the decision were that simple.
